Some rules include a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h on all highways, unless otherwise posted, and a blood alcohol limit of 0.04% for commercial drivers, which is half of the legal limit for non-commercial drivers. It is also required by law to carry a valid commercial Driver’s license when operating a commercial vehicle, and failure to do so can result in fines and penalties. In addition, commercial drivers in PEI should be aware of weight restrictions on certain roads and bridges and comply with hours of service regulations. These regulations aim to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road and maintain the integrity of the transportation industry. Commercial drivers must be well-versed in these rules and regulations to avoid fines or violations and ensure safe and responsible driving.

Before learning to drive a Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 or Class 4 vehicle, you must get authorized instruction in the class of vehicle you want to be licensed in. All applicants holding or receiving a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 driver’s license must provide a satisfactory medical report upon initial application and on a regular cycle. You must take a written commercial and sign test and a vision test. You will also require an air brake endorsement for those vehicles equipped with air brakes.

To successfully prepare, consider utilizing these exams and the official PEI Driver’s Manual to your advantage. The more knowledge you can attain, the better it will be for you once you decide to return to the SNB office to take the air brake licence written knowledge test.
